The School of Health Professions at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center invites applications for the positon of Chair, Department of Physical Therapy.  This is a full time, 12 month, tenure/tenure track faculty appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. Applicants must hold a terminal doctoral degree and have significant higher education administrative and leadership experience.  Applicants must also have clinical experience and be eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in the State of Texas. 

The Chair reports directly to the Dean of the School of Health Professions. The Chair will be responsible for the management of the academic program, clinical practice, and research labs. The Chair must be able to provide leadership and vision for the continued growth of the department and development of faculty. The successful applicants will also demonstrate excellent communication and fiscal management skills, ability to mentor faculty, and a record of scholarly achievement related to the field of physical therapy.

The Department of Physical Therapy offers an accredited, well-established and highly respected academic program.  Fifteen faculty persons develop, manage, and implement the 31 month entry level DPT curriculum.   The Department oversees the David M. Crowley Rehabilitation and Research Laboratory, as well as three clinical practice sites, staffed by nationally credentialed faculty and clinicians. These sites provide opportunities for interactive student experiences, clinical research, and an additional departmental revenue source.  The Department offers four residencies; orthopedics, neurology, and sports medicine are APTA accredited and a cardiopulmonary residency is in the development phase.  

The program’s close affiliation with Southwestern Medical School provides faculty an opportunity to become involved in research and development as well as being in an environment conducive to educational and technological advancements.
