The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC).
The AIRC conducts research in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, and translation of discoveries into clinical practice. The Center has a faculty of 14 and houses state-of-the-art equipment for magnetic resonance imaging and hyperpolarization imaging. Faculty members work collaboratively with investigators at UTSW Medical Center, UT Dallas, and UT Arlington. The facilities provide support for active basic science and clinical research efforts generating significant scholarly activity.
The successful candidate will have exceptional administrative and organizational skills and a national reputation as a leader in magnetic resonance imaging research and clinical applications. The individual chosen will have responsibility for the direction and management of the AIRC and will work closely with the leadership of the newly established Peter O’Donnell Brain Institute at UTSW and imaging researchers in Radiology, Psychiatry, Neurology and Neurosurgery to help usher in a new era of brain science discovery and development. A doctoral degree in Physics, Engineering, or other field related to Magnetic Resonance Imaging is required, with a minimum of 5 years of experience developing novel MRI pulse sequences or MRI hardware, MR image reconstructions and post-processing methods, and a successful history competing for grants from federal agencies and/or private funding agencies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in neuro MRI technical pulse sequence and hardware development, as well as translational experience with human populations, the ability to establish and maintain good vendor relationships, and experience setting up an imaging facility meeting neuroimaging needs. This is a unique opportunity to join UTSW at an unprecedented time of growth in research capabilities, infrastructure and clinical applications with significant investments being made across all domains of the clinical research enterprise and neurosciences. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
