Faculty Positions in DNA Repair in Cancer and Neurodegenerative Disorders

Multiple faculty positions are available in the laboratory of Guo-Min Li, Ph.D. in the Department of Radiation Oncology, Division of Molecular Radiation Biology at UT Southwestern Medical Center to study the mechanism of DNA repair in human diseases including cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Academic appointments will be at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor based upon experience and qualifications.
Energetic and highly motivated PhD (or equivalent) scientists with outstanding training in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cancer genetics are encouraged to apply. Broad experience and expertise in molecular cloning, protein chemistry, structural biology, viral work, and mouse xenograft models leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals is recommended. Experience in electron cryo-microscopy is preferred, but not essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
Our laboratory has several exciting projected related to biochemical and structural biology studies on the mechanism of mismatch repair using a defined system (Cell, 122, 693-705, 2005); regulation of mismatch repair by epigenetic mechanisms (including histone modifications and non-coding RNAs) and posttranslational modifications (Cell, 153, 590-600, 2013; Mol Cell, 55:31-46, 2014; PNAS, 112, 5667-5672, 2015); developing mutant DNA repair proteins that have gained novel functions and screening natural molecules targeting DNA repair enzymes as cancer therapeutic drugs; and cellular mechanisms that maintain and promote trinucleotide repeat expansions associated with many neurodegenerative disorders (Nat Struct Mol Biol 16, 869-875, 2009; Cell Res, 26, 775-86, 2016).
The Division of Molecular Radiation Biology currently has over 60 employees, including seven senior Ph.D. investigators and three M.D./Ph.D. translational researchers as well as other junior research faculty, postdoc and graduate student trainees, and lab technicians. There is also significant dedicated administrative support staff. The division has over10,000 square feet of contiguous lab space, including 7 large labs and core space for tissue culture, microscopy, and other shared resources
