Radiology - Diagnostic Radiologic Physicist 033

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Radiology, Dallas, is seeking a clinical medical physicist with ABR or ABSNM Certification in Medical Nuclear Physics.  Further certification in Diagnostic Radiologic Physics would be desirable.  This position is expected to be filled at the Assistant Professor level, but the academic rank offered will be commensurate with experience.  The candidate should hold a PhD in Physics, Imaging Science, Medical Physics or a related field and should be eligible for licensure as a Medical Physicist in the State of Texas.  Principal duties will include oversight of QA, annual testing, acceptance testing, facility design, and some support of clinical research in the Nuclear Medicine and PET clinics as well as some Diagnostic Radiological Physics duties if that qualification is present.  Clinical work history—including experience in ACR accreditation practices— in nuclear medicine physics and general diagnostic physics will be considered desirable qualifications.  Experience in magnetic resonance imaging clinical physics or mammography physics would also be considered highly desirable.  The successful applicant will join the Diagnostic Medical Physics Division, a team of 6 diagnostic physicists and 2 MRI scientists.  This is a clinical position, but some opportunities for clinically-oriented research will exist.

The Clinical Medical Physics Division supports Imaging Departments in three major hospitals (a University hospital, a county hospital, and a private pediatric hospital) and their associated clinics.  Two of the hospitals are new, having been completed within the last three years.  Consequently, equipment for almost all modalities is new and close to state-of-the-art.  The Division provides Quality Assurance and facility design services to all hospitals, supports compliance efforts, and assists clinical research activities.
