Experience and Education
Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
High school graduation or GED and four (4) years laboratory experience to include two (2) years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
Assists in collection of data for project reports.
Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is in the Kidney Cancer Program (KCP), which recently received a Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) Award from the National Cancer Institute, the second such award in kidney cancer in the U.S. The applicant will work in the laboratory of Dr. Brugarolas, KCP leader, and will be responsible for assisting with the processing and evaluation of samples through the tumorgraft program, an essential component of the SPORE. This program involves the generation of mouse models of kidney cancer through transplantation of patient samples. The KCP has the largest such program in the country.
The selected candidate will be responsible for several aspects of this program, including tissue processing and analysis. While training will be provided, expectations include professionalism, desire to excel, responsibility, dedication, flexibility, attention to detail, good organizational skills, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.
