Experience and Education


Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required.   
Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.  
High school graduation or GED and four (4) years laboratory experience to include two (2) years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.  

 

 

 

 

Job Duties


  • Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.     
  • Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.      
  • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.      
  • Assists in collection of data for project reports.       
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.      
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.     
  • Performs other duties as assigned.       

 

 

 

 

 

Additional Job responsibilites

Provide support for the lab by making solutions, dishwashing, autoclaving, cleaning, and generally ensuring smooth operations in the lab.  Works with other technicians and lab personnel to coordinate activities.  Ensures that lab personnel adhere to all biohazard control and laboratory safety protocols.  Maintains and propagate the laboratory stocks of cultured cells.  Prepare solutions and reagents for general laboratory use.  Assists with the ordering of chemicals, reagents and other laboratory supplies, and maintenance of lab inventories.

Initiate and perform the day-to-day laboratory operations on one or more research projects in coordination with the PI and other lab members.  Projects will involve molecular and biochemical approaches, as well as cell culture. Assist in evaluating lab methods, procedures and techniques based on established objectives.  Prepare and contribute to the assembly of data and other information for publication as requested.  Assist lab members with a variety for research projects, including doing prep work.

Assists with special lab management projects at the request of the PI.  Includes organizing and sending reagents to other institutions, researching and testing equipment and protocols, organizing lab group activities.
