Advanced Practice

At UT Southwestern Medical Center, our Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are key members of the multidisciplinary team responsible for providing the most advanced care in a comprehensive range of renowned specialty services.

Whether practicing on-site at our two acclaimed hospitals or in a wide range of ambulatory and outpatient clinics,

our APPs – whose ranks include both AP nurses (nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse specialists and certified nurse midwives) and physician assistants – provide a broad range of expert services, including:

  • Episodic care in clinics and our busy emergency department
  • Managing critical illnesses in the University Hospitals
  • Serving as a resource and consultant for patients and their families
  • Providing continuity of care for chronic illnesses
  • Facilitating transitions of care and improving access to care

A Unique Experience from Day One

As the only academic medical center in North Texas – and home to an acclaimed research center and medical school boasting 6 Nobel Prize winners – UT Southwestern offers APPs the collaborative environment and comprehensive resources they need to help us define the national standard for innovative patient care.

That why we’ve created a dedicated APP department, to support and enrich the careers of each team member at every stage of their career — from a robust orientation program that ensures they’re positioned to succeed from day one to continuing education and professional development opportunities that fuel their growth into leadership roles.

Coupled with an exceptional benefits package that includes a generous pension plan and much more, UT Southwestern offers APPs the compelling blend of clinical challenge, professional growth and personal satisfaction that can elevate every career to extraordinary levels.

Professional Development at UT Southwestern

Our APPs enjoy full access to a wide range of dynamic professional development programs designed to help them enrich their skill sets and define their own career paths. These programs include:

Academic Clinical Provider Lecture Series

With lecturers from all disciplines, this series of monthly forums fosters interdisciplinary collaboration while offering APPs a valuable opportunity to review and discuss clinical patient management and evaluate important issues confronted by our providers.

APP-Specific Residencies & Fellowships

We offer intensive, full-time residency and fellowship programs designed to provide select candidates with the curricula and training to assist with innovative, complex care in key specialty areas.
