Summary
Works under the direct supervision of a registered technologist as directed by a physician to perform a variety of imaging exams for Imaging Services. A minimum of eight shifts a month scheduled by imaging leadership are required. This is a training position for imaging professionals and will be terminated 90 days after the program graduation date.
The Imaging Trainee Assistant is a training/orientation position to develop the knowledge, skills, abilities, tools, and critical reasoning to reduce the learning gap in anticipation of becoming a registered imaging technologist. The Imaging Trainee Assistant performs diagnostic examinations for assigned patients to gain experiences that establish a basis to guide practice and provide safe, quality care with supervision and guidance from experienced staff. The Imaging Trainee Assistant incorporates theoretical knowledge into clinical situations and is able to perform basic skills and assist registered technologists. Practice is under the direct supervision of a registered imaging technologist, referencing policies, procedures, and standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School or equivalent required. Must be actively enrolled and attending a program for radiography, ultrasound, MRI, or Nuclear Medicine school. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment is required.
Job Duties:
All job duties are performed under the direct supervision of a registered technologist and applicants must be currently enrolled and attending an imaging program.
Imaging Trainee Assistants are required to possess excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Imaging Trainee Assistants need to be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the organization.
Patient Care
Review physician orders for accuracy, diagnosis, and applicability to the ordered exam. Interviews patient (two patient identifier) conducts patient screening and obtains medical history pertaining to procedures clinical criteria. Explains procedure and instructs patient on necessary requirements needed to provide diagnostic images. Assist patient in dressing for exam and attends to patient's physical well-being while transporting to and from exam room and positioning for exam. Instructs/communicates with patient and/or patient's family (as appropriate) regarding the tests to be performed.
Screens patients for medications, implanted devices, or other queries for examinations to ensure quality and safety. Assists the physician as needed in performing procedures. Ensures that images and electronic health records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
Functions in the department as a part of an interdisciplinary team and collaborates in the care and service delivery process of patient care through effective communication with other service lines. Works with registered technologists to prioritize exams to ensure smooth workflow, minimize wait times and address stat and urgent requests.
Adheres to hospital policies, regulatory compliance, new yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscally responsible with regards to equipment, supplies scheduling, overtime, etc. Maintains patient confidentiality and ensures that all processes and procedures are securely maintained. Must be able to lift 40-50lbs.
Research as applicable: Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; b) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
