Department Summary
The Nutrition Support Team (NST) APP works within the multidisciplinary nutrition support team. This team is comprised of nutrition support dietitians, APPs, pharmacists, and physicians. As a team, they evaluate nutrition status and determine malnutrition risk, recommend appropriate nutrition support modality (enteral versus parenteral), monitor and treat electrolyte disturbances, order specialized nutrition support including macro and micronutrients, and evaluate tolerance of recommendations.The NST APP also leads the enteral access team which manages consults for enteral access placement to recommend and coordinate placement for long term enteral access which includes DHT, surgical G tubes, G-J tubes, and coordination of care with other enteral access teams (IR, GI) Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status. The overarching goal is to address nutritional needs amongst the inpatient at Clements University Hospital along with the Cancer Care Clinic.
