The breast and microsurgery Assistant Instructor must be an expert in treating with all aspects of microsurgery reconstruction and breast surgery, including management of complex extremity, trunk, head and neck, and breast surgery. The Assistant Instructor must also have an expertise in dealing with acute and secondary complications related to micro and non-micro general reconstruction. These complications include flap loss, total or partial, wound dehiscence, wound infection, failed reconstructions, correction of secondary deformities, correction of asymmetries etc. The fellow will have a strong knowledge base and appreciation for which technique and reconstructive procedure is ideal for a given defect. The fellow's expertise will also include learning to interact with other subspecialties. Through consultations on other services and to other services there is a collaborative interaction with faculty, fellows and residents from surgical oncology, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, OB & GYN, ENT, emergency room physicians and hospitalists.
This position offers a comprehensive training experience, providing in-depth exposure to general pediatric reconstruction and to the management of complex craniofacial disorders, cleft lip and palate, resonance disorders, hemangiomas and vascular anomalies, and general pediatric reconstructive surgery. Research opportunities, publications, and national presentations are an integral part of the training. Candidate must be eligible for a Texas medical license.
