Experience and Education

Bachelors degree and five (5) years or greater experience in hospital or multi-hospital system management role and three (3) years working with inventory and central sterile processing functions is required.

Job Duties

Oversee the Sterile Processing Departments at University Hospitals Sterile Processing Departs Manage payroll and monthly reports. Work closely with the Sterile Processing Educator on policies and competencies.

Supervises and evaluates unit operations and functions and provision of services provided by personnel assigned to unit. Facilitates compliance by personnel assigned to unit to all policies and procedures, code of ethics, JCAHO standards, OSHA standards, and specialty organization standards.

Interviews and provides input regarding hiring of all personnel for unit. Provides immediate counseling and constructive criticism and disciplinary interventions of personnel in private setting and in manner that is positive and respectful.

Follows-up with accurate and timely reports to Director of Surgical Services and/or Director of Human Resources. May terminate personnel for cause following discussion with and approval from Director of Surgical Services and/or Director of Human Resources.

Conducts daily and/or shift by shift review of unit assignments, scheduling and staffing plans to ensure adequate coverage of unit and adherence to policies, procedures, and productivity targets. Revises unit assignments, schedules, and plans as necessary. Utilizes staffing patterns and guidelines to foster most cost effective option for providing adequate coverage for unit.

Completes unit payroll editing at end of each payroll cycle and ensures that unit's attendance records are maintained. Develops unit's annual capital and operational budgets with assistance from Director of Surgical Services.
Completes all annual performance evaluations and orientation evaluations of personnel assigned to unit.

Generates and/or supervises generation, implementation and evaluation of occurrence reports and performance improvement activities as appropriate. Provides appropriate and timely follow-up and monitors occurrence reports and performance improvement activities and submits them to Director of Surgical Services.

Communicates effectively with all hospital personnel and industry representative. Participates identification and resolution of complaints regarding unit. Reports complaints and interventions to Director of Surgical Services to allow adequate follow-up.

Serves as role model to other staff. Provides and supports efforts to develop teamwork between all personnel and between all Zale Lipshy University Hospital employees and staff at all times.

Utilizes Zale Lipshy University Hospital resources which optimizes those resources for benefit of organization and its patient population. Identifies efficiency or cost saving ideas and reports them to Director of Surgical Services.
Seeks opportunities to teach, mentor, promote professional growth of personnel assigned to unit. Collaborates with Clinical Educator to assist in meeting educational needs of personnel assigned to unit.

Conducts staff and committee meetings and special projects such as educational, research and recruitment activities. Participates in routine interdisciplinary and special care conferences.

Performs other duties as assigned.
