Medical Director for Psychiatric Emergency Services Department

The Psychiatry Department at UT Southwestern Medical School announces a faculty opening for Medical Director of a busy (approximately 750-900 visits per month) Psychiatric Emergency Room at Parkland Hospital, a large affiliated county hospital. The Psychiatry ER is a dedicated facility located next to the Parkland major Level 1 Trauma Center and staffed 24/7 by several physician-lead teams, 1-2 psychiatry residents, advanced practice nurses, social workers, and an Attending backup system. The Psychiatry ER is also a key training site for Psychiatry residents, medical students, Physician Assistant students, Psychology graduate students, and others. The Psychiatry ER collaborates effectively with Parkland’s medical/surgical ER.

Candidates should be Board Certified Psychiatrists with Community and/or Emergency Psychiatry experience, excellent clinical and clinical-teaching skills, an academic track record, as well as experience in medical administration, quality improvement and associated budgetary issues. Candidates must have (or be able to obtain prior to hire) a Texas medical license. This is a high profile, visible position that offers great opportunity for development and career enhancement. There are ample research opportunities in the Emergency Room setting, backed by UTSW research infrastructure that offers support in organizing and deploying a research project. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience, also consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full time schedule
