Level 5 Float Pool RNs are required to have 3 years RN experience which must include 2 years ICU experience. ACLS & BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
BSN & CCRN preferred.
Float Pool Level 5 RNs are required to float to both critical care and non-critical care areas.

Experience and Education
Graduate of accredited nursing program & 3-5 years acute care nursing experience to include 2 years critical care experience, and 2-3 years med/surg & telemetry experience.
Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) license; current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) cert & Basic Life Support (BLS)cert, both accredited by American Heart Association (AHA) required.

Job Duties

Performs and documents physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments. Takes assessments into consideration age specific criteria.
Anticipates patient's and/or patient's family's needs and expect- ations and utilizes them in conjunction with assessment to develop appropriate plan of care for patient. Maintains and utilizes competencies per unit expectation.
Identifies and implements appropriate nursing interventions based on assessment. Completes documentation of these interventions. Coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care. Confers with all mem- bers of health care team in collaborative fashion, sharing inform- ation and observations of patient and/or family in manner that contributes to optimal patient care.
Prioritizes nursing interventions based upon assessment. Identi- fies changes in condition as evidenced by nursing assessment, labs, x-rays, etc. Reports changes and takes follow-up action.
Evaluates implemented interventions and modifies care according to evaluation. Documents interventions and modifications to plan of care.
Adheres to appropriate hospital and/or Department of Nursing policies, procedures, clinical pathways and nationally accepted standards of nursing practice while delivering nursing care to patients. Suggests practices to enhance nursing care based on current literature and research.
Provides answers and/or education to patients and/or patient's families. Completes documentation of all education provided. Ob- tains feedback and evaluation of understanding from patient and family. Demonstrates effective communication with children, ado- lescents, adults and older adults.
Welcomes and orients patient and family to unit. Encourages patient and family participation in care. Reviews plan of care with patient and family. Explains special diets, tests, proce- dures, and medications. Makes frequent rounds on patients and communicates when will return.
Assumes accountability for all actions in workplace. Reports errors and takes follow-up action to rectify error. Provides supervision of and direction to unlicensed support personnel and nurses new to environment. Delegates duties within legal para- meters.
Responds to patient's and/or patient's family's complaints to Clinical Nurse Manager or their designee. Utilizes chain of com- mand to resolve issues.
Participates in performance improvement activities as directed. Attends at least 80% of scheduled staff meetings and 100% of mand- atory educational sessions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
