Why UT Southwestern? William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital provides Level IV Maternal Care. We are a Texas Ten Step and Texas Gold Mother Friendly facility. 6 Blue, the Mother Baby unit, cares for antepartum and postpartum women and newborns. Patient rooms are spacious and private, with large windows that bring in natural light. The goal of our care is to provide the best patient and family experience in a patient and family-centered environment while providing individualized attention and education, reassurance, and quality care in each stage of pregnancy and beyond. Infants in the postpartum and well-baby unit are cared for as a “couplet” with their mother. Rooming-in allows infants to remain with their mothers throughout their stay, minimizing time apart, and encouraging bonding and breastfeeding. Our staff provides ongoing support, protection, and encouragement for breastfeeding for our mothers and babies. Certified lactation consultants are available onsite daily and at night. All postpartum nurses receive lactation education updates. Our unit specializes in the care of families. Specifically focused on adjustment and education involved with the addition of a newborn. We care for normal and complicated pregnancies.
Mother/Baby and the Women’s Resources Center is 14 beds with overflow to Labor and Delivery. The patient population is antepartum patients, postpartum mothers and well babies. Our unit specializes in Mother Baby care. We teach baby care, breastfeeding, home care and self-care. The antepartum patients with pregnancy complications stay with us for a while and we care for them and assist with activities to help them. Our Lactation Consultants help all patients and our Women Resources Center schedules follow up visits for weight checks, jaundice, and lactation assistance. We are a Texas Ten Step facility. UTSW is proud to have earned Magnet® designation, the highest honor awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Learn more about UTSW’s nursing excellence online.
