Acute care pharmacists at UT Southwestern focus on the medication needs of patients with short-term critical illnesses or injuries. Their expert knowledge ensures that patients at our award-winning hospitals — William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital and Zale Lipshy Pavilion — receive the right medications at the right time and in the right way. Be part of our acute care pharmacy team.
Ambulatory Pharmacy
Our ambulatory pharmacy team plays a vital and expanding role at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Ambulatory pharmacists and pharmacy technicians have opportunities within our various ambulatory clinics throughout Dallas-Fort Worth and the following:
- 5 Retail Pharmacies
- 2 Specialty Pharmacies
- 1 Infusion Pharmacy
- Centralized Medication Access Team
Retail pharmacists provide vaccinations, prescription dispensing, counseling, and compounding, among other services. Specialty pharmacists manage oncology and non-oncology medications, including benefits investigation, prior authorization, financial assistance, and prescription dispensing. Infusion staff compound medications in a sterile environment within the infusion clinic. The central medication access team provides coverage of centralized services for retail and specialty pharmacies. Ambulatory clinic pharmacists and technicians collaborate with providers to optimize patient outcomes.
Investigational Pharmacy
Investigational drug pharmacists at UT Southwestern play a crucial role in clinical trials by ensuring the safe and effective handling of investigational drugs, which are medications still under development and surveillance. Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing protocols
- Coordinating with investigators
- Training staff
- Developing dispensing systems
- Facilitating blind and randomized procedures
Oncology Pharmacy
UT Southwestern Simmons Cancer Center Pharmacy provides specialty services for oncology patients at the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. We offer a rewarding career helping patients with:
- Specialized oncology medications — ensuring patients receive the right treatment, dispensed accurately
- Supportive care management — helping patients manage side effects and feel their best during treatment
- Over-the-counter products — providing easy access to essential medications
Pharmacy Administration
UT Southwestern’s Pharmacy Administration team plays a vital role in overseeing pharmacy operations throughout the UT Southwestern system, performing tasks such as:
- Hiring and managing staff
- Overseeing inventory and purchasing
- Providing staff development and work/life balance
- Ensuring compliance with regulations
- Providing leadership and guidance to the pharmacy team
- Developing and implementing pharmacy policies/procedures
- Analyzing pharmacy data to identify trends and improve performance
