Job Summary

The Green Center for Reproductive Biology Sciences is seeking a Lab Coordinator to oversee day-to-day operations in our growing, dynamic academic research center. The Laboratory Coordinator will work closely with our center leadership and faculty to provide comprehensive technical and operational support for common Green Center projects.

This position will be responsible for:

• Procurement, operation, optimization, and oversight of common equipment
• Oversight and training of center technical staff for center-wide duties
• Scheduling of use and training of faculty, staff, and research trainees on complex research instrumentation
• Assist center manager with routine facilities and maintenance requests, new lab startups, renovations, and events, including planning, procurement, and logistics
• Oversight of all equipment assets, maintenance, repairs, and service contracts
• Management of the Business Continuity Plan
• Other duties as assigned

Preferred qualifications

• Master’s or Ph.D. degree with operations experience.
• Supervisory experience
• Experience with confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and fluorescence-based cell-sorting
• Ability to multi-task, be organized, efficient and be detail oriented.
• Ability to work with a team.
• Work requires excellent communication skills.
• Work requires ability to independently perform work of considerable complexity to achieve general results by interpretation of policy and using ingenuity, initiative, and good judgment, and/or precedents to work problems having broad implications.
• Work requires interpretation of policy and application of relevant procedures or practices.

Experience and Education

• Bachelor degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific field, and
• Two (2) years of relevant experience to include one (1) year experience with state/federal regulatory requirements, such as Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL) guidelines
• One or more of the following:
  • Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs)/Good Clinical Practices (GCPs) / Good Manufacturing Practices(GMPs), 
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements
  • Local requirements (chemical and biohazardous waste disposal, etc.)

Some supervisory experience preferred.

Work experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Must meet education and experience certification and training guidelines for equipment and tests used and performed in particular laboratory, as required under federal regulations.

Lab Job Duties

• Coordinates operational activities of a basic science research center ensuring efficient operation of research laboratories and research-related activities, including but not limited to organizing common service duties of technical staff, schedules, project activities, equipment usage, and operating time for group of people.
• Coordinates availability of technical assistance, training, appropriate chemicals and supplies for complex research equipment and instrumentation to ensure timely preparation or completion of research projects.
• Indirect oversight of center laboratory technical staff.
• May assist with recruitment and training of technical staff using managerial skills according to departmental and university guidelines.
• Ensures all personnel and laboratory compliance with regulatory requirements appropriate to the laboratory space.
• Coordinates procurement, delivery, installation and repair of capital equipment, other equipment, materials and supplies as assigned to ensure efficient operation of labs and research activities.
• May assist center management to coordinate renovations, facility or utility repairs, working with Facilities Management or other vendors to ensure continuity of business and research operations. 
• Manages Research Assets and information on warranties, service contracts, operating manuals, licenses and permits; oversees maintenance of laboratory equipment to ensure compliance with all regulations and safety standards.
• Manages the center Business Continuity Plan.
• Troubleshoots problems and designs training according to government regulations.
• Laboratory liaison to the Department/Center administration.
•  Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Duties

• Coordinates duties, schedules, project activities, equipment usage, operating time, research studies, billing, and space for group of people ensuring efficient operation of a research laboratory. 
• Coordinates availability of technical assistance, appropriate chemicals, and special equipment to ensure timely preparation or completion of research projects.
• Oversight of all laboratory and office personnel, maintains personnel records, ensures completion of performance evaluations, and recruits and trains both clerical and technical support using managerial skills according to departmental and university guidelines.
• Ensures all personnel and laboratory compliance with regulatory requirements appropriate to the laboratory space.
• Oversight of all research orders and allocates all laboratory supplies, materials, and equipment; maintains adequate inventory to ensure efficient operation of projects.
• Manages Research Assets and information on warranties, service contracts, operating manuals, licenses and permits; oversees maintenance of laboratory equipment in order to ensure compliance with all regulations and safety standards.
• Manages the laboratory Business Continuity Plan.
• Troubleshoots problems and designs training according to government regulations.
• Laboratory liaison to the Department/Center administration.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
