Population Science Project Coordinator I is hiring for positions in an interdisciplinary vaccine research group. Candidate should have strong research skills, including data analysis, experience with quantitative and qualitative methods/software, grant and research coordination, IRB management, and a background in epidemiology, global health, economics/econometrics, health behavior, or another relevant quantitative discipline. Individuals with the potential for leadership, a desire to cross interdisciplinary boundaries, and an aptitude for developing an independent research portfolio will be strong applicants.
The Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health will provide unique academic and research opportunities within a culturally rich environment that has Dallas ranked No. 4 in diversity among U.S. cities. The 7.8 million people in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex reside in 13 counties across 9,000 square miles. The majority-minority population is 41 percent Hispanic and 25 percent African American. Close to 20 percent of our region’s population are foreign born, speak Spanish only, and lack health insurance.
UT Southwestern is establishing a 21st-century School of Public Health cemented in its core research strengths and reinforced through integral collaboration with area institutions and health systems. UTSW has more than 2,800 full-time faculty who garner more than $524 million in annual grant funding for research. UTSW’s Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health has a substantial research portfolio and emerging leadership in population health, will serve as the foundation for building the new school.
The vision of the Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Child and Adolescent Population Health Program (CAPHP) is to support multidisciplinary research teams, including students and other trainees to conduct collaborative studies and programs focused on improving health outcomes for diverse pediatric populations. CAPHP’s strategy focuses on collaborating across clinical and community settings, fostering transdisciplinary research, and leading the discovery of evidence-based science to inform clinical practices and community programs in the North Texas region and beyond. Additionally, it aims to transform child and adolescent population health through education, training, and mentoring, instilling a culture of health for all families in the region.
CAPHP is a collaborative effort between the UTSW O’Donnell School of Public Health, the Department of Pediatrics and Children’s Health System of Texas. The position will focus on a variety of interdisciplinary projects having to do with child and adolescent health research within CAPHP. This program also has an orientation towards strong mentoring and focuses on developing skills as well as the ability to lead an independent research program. We invest in mentee growth and have a culture of mutual support. The group fosters a rigorous scientific research environment but is cognizant of the importance of work-life balance – and works with members to strike a healthy balance between research and personal life.

Work here, and you’ll help us create and conduct translational bench-to-bedside research that quickly moves basic discoveries into treatments that directly benefit patients. Here’s an example: We’ve found that small artificial molecules called peptoids show promise as both diagnostic tools and treatments for various types of cancer. Peptoids can bind to cancerous cells more tightly than normal cells. So our researchers are looking at ways to combine peptoids with anti-cancer drugs to target cancer cells more specifically.
