The Department of Biomedical Engineering at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) in Dallas, TX invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor. Successful candidates will have a strong track record of impactful science and compelling plans for building a creative research program within the broad field of BME with research focus on remote health sensing, wearable medical technologies, and/or multi-source data integration via artificial intelligence and machine learning. Highly qualified senior postdoctoral fellows with outstanding publications and extramural research funding may be eligible for position through the UTSW FIRST Research Program or Endowed Scholars program and are strongly encouraged to apply.
We are especially interested in candidates who will thrive in the highly collaborative UTSW Medical Center environment, working closely with clinical and basic research faculty and translating new technologies into medical solutions. All faculty members are expected to be enthusiastic mentors to trainees and actively engage in the teaching mission of the department.
Responsibilities
Successful candidate will develop an innovative research program focused on remote sensing technologies and digital healthcare. The department is particularly interested in the application of novel biosensors, wireless technologies and devices for digital healthcare, AI-based solutions for clinical diagnostic and/or therapeutic options, and health technology assessment. The candidates will find enthusiastic collaborators from many clinical departments and will have access to patients and topnotch infrastructure to support their research.
This research focused position will include responsibility for teaching graduate students and mentoring trainees. Specific focus research areas are open but may include the development, testing and application of nanomaterials, organic electronics, diverse sensors and autonomous or intelligent sensor systems.
About the Department of Biomedical Engineering
The UTSW Department of Biomedical Engineering is one of the few placed solely within a medical center, with no undergraduate program. We aim to drive programmatic integration in biomedical engineering and address emerging clinical and scientific challenges in medicine and biology using innovative technologies. Anchored by outstanding faculty, motivated trainees and exceptional clinical and engineering infrastructure the department strives to create innovative systems and methods that will play an active role in transforming the current disease care system into a genuine health care enterprise.
The ideal candidate will have earned a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, material science, computer science, or a related field. A demonstrated potential for innovation in this field of research is desirable as indicated by some or all the following:
