SUMMARY

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Ambulatory Services will be responsible for nursing practice for the organization’s ambulatory setting, including on-campus outpatient clinics, satellite clinics, and outpatient surgery centers. Provides overall direction for the delivery of nursing and patient care in all Ambulatory clinics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Identifies and articulates the vision and strategic direction for the discipline of Nursing in the Ambulatory setting and collaborates on the implementation of strategies to achieve them.
• Provides guidance for the development of strategies to promote the recruitment, retention, and recognition of excellence in Nursing; including the promotion of Magnet principles in the ambulatory setting, recommendations regarding compensation and benefit programs for ambulatory nursing staff, and optimization of ambulatory staffing models.
• Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical programs and services, assuring appropriate resources for the delivery of care.
• Serves as the senior spokesperson for Nursing in Ambulatory Services.  Collaborates with ambulatory operations leadership team, Department Chairs, Medical Directors, and individual clinical facilities by providing input about the implications of decisions and change on the quality of patient care, on nursing practice, and on nursing care providers.
• Promotes and fosters a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care, and the coordination of care among disciplines.
• Assures that the patient care delivery model(s), clinical and staffing standards for nursing are consistent with current research and professional standards and with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
• Assures continuity and consistency of nursing care across the ambulatory setting by assuring that all nursing services are provided in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of the JCAHO, the State Board of Nursing, and all other applicable regulatory bodies; promotes and actively seeks recognition beyond the regulatory requirements, for patient care services and for nursing. 
• Collaborates with the local nursing schools to maximize recruitment while ensuring an effective learning environment for students.
• Fosters a patient-care culture that emphasizes patient safety and excellence in all aspects of care working collaboratively with the medical staff and medical staff leadership to ensure the highest quality patient care.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Master’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, finance, business, or a related field.
• If your master’s degree is not in nursing: Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is required.
• A minimum of ten (10) years progressive leadership experience in a large, complex health care system.
• PhD or DNP preferred.
