Profile
This position will serve as the Medical Director of the UT Southwestern Student Wellness and Counseling Center. The Medical Director is expected to be an active clinician with a demonstrated understanding of how to successfully manage change within a university environment. In this position, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of approximately 10 mental health professionals who provide comprehensive behavioral health care to campus learners including medical students, graduate students, and residents. The care offered includes outreach and screening, wellness activities, mental health office visits, and virtual care visits, addressing a variety of mental health conditions and situational/academic challenges.
This position will be performed in conjunction with a role as the Medical Director for Student and Resident Mental Health and Wellness and is responsible for facilitating the development of students and residents, by reducing psychological problems and distress by enhancing mental health, well-being, quality of life, and optimal functioning through the delivery of high-quality, culturally sensitive services to UT Southwestern students, residents and the larger campus community. As the Chief Wellness Officer for our students across our four schools (UT Southwestern Medical School, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Health Professions, and the Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health) as well as our Graduate Medical Education trainees, this position will also report to the Vice Provost and Senior Associate Dean for Education.
Essential Functions
The Medical Director of Student and Resident Mental Health and Wellness is responsible for:
Candidates must have an M.D./D.O. and be board certified or board eligible in General Psychiatry. While Texas licensure is not required for consideration or selection, it is a pre-requisite for starting in the position. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in pursuing an academic career. Academic experience and a strong track record of clinical teaching is a plus.
