The Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health and the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute at UT Southwestern Medical Center are seeking exceptional candidates for multiple tenured or tenure-track faculty positions preferrably at the associate or full professor level. Both the School and the Brain Institute are undergoing significant expansions, and an outstanding startup package, along with opportunities for program development, will be provided.
We encourage applications from exceptional scholars with a national reputation in epidemiological and population research on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, stroke and cerebrovascular disorders, Parkinson’s disease, or other neurological disorders. Qualified candidates should hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D., D.Sc., Dr.PH., or equivalent) in Epidemiology or an MD with additional training in Epidemiology or Clinical Investigation (M.S., M.P.H., or Ph.D.). Candidates must demonstrate a successful, impactful research career with a strong record of securing external funding (e.g., NIH, CDC, AHRQ, PCORI, etc.). Experience in academic leadership, program development, teaching, and fostering multidisciplinary collaboration is highly desired.
The Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health and the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute offer unique academic and research opportunities for successful candidates. Numerous clinic- and population-based research programs, including the Dallas Hearts and Minds Study, provide ample opportunities for collaboration. UT Southwestern O’Donnell School of Public Health has a substantial research portfolio and is emerging as a leader in population health research. Faculty members are supported by both quantitative and qualitative methods cores, as well as a comprehensive range of pre- and post-grant support services. The school’s faculty are experts in diverse fields, including epidemiology, clinical trials, community participatory research, implementation science, biostatistics, data science, and social and behavioral sciences.
UT Southwestern O’Donnell Brain Institute is supported by a $1 billion campaign dedicated to advancing brain research and clinical care. More than 2,100 faculty and staff tackle some of the most complex problems in the brain. The institute fosters multidisciplinary research and is committed to building partnerships among basic, clinical, and population scientists to achieve its mission: delivering the best possible patient care today while creating a future of better treatment and prevention through discovery and innovation. The Department of Neurology, with 140 full-time faculty in 12 sections, is intensely research focused. Over the past 4 years, the department has quadrupled its NIH-funded support, with 1 in every 4 primary faculty members being the PI of a federally funded grant, transforming Neurology into the per capita most highly funded of 42 departments at UT Southwestern.
UT Southwestern boasts over 3,000 full-time faculty members, contributing to more than $719 million in annual grant funded research. The University is home to 24 members of the National Academy of Medicine, 25 members of the National Academy of Sciences and 6 Nobel laureates.
