The Department of Internal Medicine is recruiting an experienced palliative care leader to serve as the Section Chief of Palliative Care at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW). The section currently includes 14 full-time palliative care physicians and 6 part time faculty, in addition to a full complement of advanced practice providers (APPs), social workers, nurse care coordinators, chaplains, child life specialists, and a pharmacist. Our faculty are active contributors to American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM), Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) and Vital Talk. Our palliative care fellowship trains 6 fellows per year. The section delivers care at two primary teaching hospitals: UT Southwestern William P. Clements University Hospital (CUH) and Parkland Memorial Hospital. CUH is a state-of-the-art teaching hospital with 800 beds, a National Cancer institute-designated cancer center, and The Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute. CUH also encompasses liver transplant, lung transplant, heart transplant programs and left ventricular assist device programs. Parkland Memorial Hospital, which serves Dallas County and the surrounding vicinity, has 850 beds and a rich mix of complex patient care. Beyond these hospitals, our affiliated faculty deliver care at Children’s Hospital Dallas and the Dallas Veteran’s Hospital.
Job Duties:
Qualifications: Candidates must have demonstrated leadership experience in palliative care, with a track record of accomplishments in clinical innovation, research, quality improvement, and/or medical education. Applicants must be board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, with added certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and be eligible for Texas medical licensure.

Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishment and experience. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time schedule.
