JOB DUTIES

• Instructs, prepares and monitors patients through MEG procedures. Demonstrates independence in performing needed advanced spontaneous and evoked MEG recording on patients and analyzes the resulting data. Archives and stores data on appropriate media. Places EEG electrodes when needed. Applies methods to obtain optimal MEG recordings and waveforms. Is knowledgeable in correct procedure performance and recognition of clinically significant events. Actively identifies equipment limitations and problems related to patient care. Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate actions to take during an abnormal study or emergency situation. Ensures safety to patients and staff.
• Reviews, edits and provides technical descriptions of all MEG related procedures and prepares detailed factual reports of all procedures. Demonstrates the ability to access, navigate, and document in multiple software applications (Microsoft Office suites, Remote Citrix, Epic, Peoplesoft). Uploads diagnostic MEG images to patient electronic medical records. Co-registers Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) images and uses current software to make DICOM images. Attend patient care planning meetings to present this information, either in person or virtually.
• Screens patients and obtains and documents pertinent medical history from patients and referring facilities. Demonstrates knowledge of neuroanatomy, physiology, basic electronics, electrical safety, instrumentation, pattern recognition, and various medical and pharmacological conditions that may influence MEG procedures. Reviews informed consent form with patients and families. Provides accurate charge entry/verification routinely and maintains electronic communication consistently with appropriate staff through the designated channels.
• Responsible for daily MEG system upkeep procedures. Ensures medical gases are ordered and refilled. Performs system checks, troubleshoots equipment problems, and reports problems to appropriate personnel. Maintains and sets up peripheral MEG equipment. Acts as a resource for the department in evaluating new equipment, ordering supplies, assessing effectiveness of current policy and standard of care. Provides input to the MEG director, department manager and others regarding quality and patient care issues as needed.
• Actively assists department leadership in continuous process improvement which includes audits of charges/billing reconciliation, ensuring that research studies and clinical studies are properly coded to for correct billing, record review, staff orientation and training, staff development and successful monitoring and documentation of employee competencies.
  Works with other department leaders and care team members on projects related to MEG as assigned by manager, including community events, accreditation activities, nursing and other care team coordination, improvement of coordination of care, training and learning initiatives.
• Participates in startup meetings for new protocols. Performs technical setup of new protocols with scientists or researchers. Trains researchers to set-up and acquire MEG for studies, and assists researchers with analysis and data transfer.
• Orients new staff and students to work areas. Assists in the training, supervision, and evaluation of other technologists. Acts as a resource to junior staff members. Collaborates with other hospital employees to create an environment that is conducive to retention of qualified personnel.
• Learns to perform additional and advanced MEG Procedures. Expands knowledge by participation in research projects, conferences, in-services, and independent study.
• The MEG technologist may be asked to help provide tours, demonstrate the new technology, or speak to various departments about the technology. They will interface with internal personnel as well as donors and outside universities.
• Performs routine database checks and prunes, clips and archives files as needed according to department policy. Communicates computational and storage needs with neuroimaging systems engineer.
