ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job Duties
- Demonstrate continuous performance improvement in targeted areas of responsibility in alignment with the overall annual Hospital performance improvement targets.
- Meets or exceeds financial goals and objectives of the department.
- Identify/interpret the general accounting needs of the organization such that generally accepted accounting policies and procedures are established and implemented to ensure adequate internal controls and standards of accuracy, timeliness and productivity are properly in place and followed throughout the finance organization. Coordinate with Medical Center Accounting and Finance.
- Coordinate the Hospitals’ net revenue accounting process in order to accurately account for all contractual adjustments, bad debts, and charity allowances. Review the development and utilization of efficient processes to support recording of these items for individual accounts, in the aggregate, and as they affect the financial statements of the operating divisions.
- Administrative/Supervisory duties include oversight of the general accounting functions for the Hospital’s. This includes oversight of the Hospitals’ Accounts Payable function and coordination of the Payroll function with Medical Center Accounting.
- Responsible for participating in the development of programs within the accounting curriculum and then teaching or assisting in teaching these programs in scheduled sessions with the accounting staff of the Hospitals and Medical Center. Responsible to ensure that accounting staff are following through on the learnings and tools provided in these sessions.
- Participate in the coordination of the financial planning activities of the organization including the implementation of enterprise-wide processes for development of annual budgets; the development of key financial and operating assumptions and other relevant factors used in the development of the annual budgets and performance monitoring; and, the incorporation of approved annual budgets into the long range planning and financial forecasts of the organization.
- Assist the CFO with administrative support to the required committees throughout the Medical Center and in special projects; act on behalf of the CFO in his/her absence.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Required
- Education
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance or a degree in business or health services administration with strong accounting/finance course work.
- Experience
8 years of directly related experience in a healthcare environment.
3 years of experience as a Controller or at the Controller Level.
Preferred
- Education
Master’s Degree in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Self-starting individual with strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with many levels of personnel throughout the Medical Center including clerks, accountants, managers, department heads, vice presidents and executive vice presidents.
- Must possess a thorough working knowledge of accounting from both a managerial and financial point of view.
- Knowledge of FASB and GASB is necessary.
- Proven leadership skills including the ability to effectively motivate, challenge, recognize and reward and if necessary discipline staff in pursuit of common goals and objectives.
- Extensive use of computerized systems/applications is required and knowledge of how these systems work is essential.
