JOB SUMMARY
The Director of the Office of Continuing Medical Education (OCE) provides strategic and operational leadership for UT Southwestern’s accredited CME program, ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies and alignment with institutional goals for lifelong learning, quality improvement, and health outcomes. The Director oversees the daily operations of the OCE, including fiscal stewardship, stakeholder engagement, accreditation compliance, and the design and delivery of innovative, data-informed continuing education programs that serve clinicians, healthcare teams, and community partners. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Education and working closely with the Clinical Enterprise, the Director builds collaborative partnerships with clinical departments, the CE Advisory Committee, institutional leadership, and external organizations to ensure the continued excellence and relevance of UT Southwestern’s CME offerings. The Director will ensure strategic plan to assure the success of accredited continuing education, with emphasis on interprofessional continuing education (IPCE), in partnership with clinical and administrative leaders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job Duties

• Operational Oversight and Compliance
• Directs all aspects of the OCE, including program administration, personnel supervision, compliance reporting, and continuous quality improvement.
• Maintains full accreditation with recommendations from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME and/or Joint Accreditation) by ensuring compliance with evolving standards.
• Establishes superior accreditation and audit metrics.
• Leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of policies, processes, and systems to support high-quality, evidence-based CME activities aligned with institutional goals and national best practices.
• Demonstrates OCE program impact, to include analysis of relevant data trends, to include longitudinal educational evaluation and outcomes results
• Oversees internal audit readiness, annual reporting, and accreditation site visit preparation.
• Strategic and Financial Management
• Develops and manages the OCE’s annual operating budget; ensures financial sustainability of programming through effective cost-recovery models and external partnerships.
• Develops long-range strategic plans that support CME innovation, emerging technologies, and alignment with workforce development needs.
• Analyzes utilization data and learner outcomes to inform continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
• Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
• Serves as the primary liaison to the Continuing Education Advisory Committee, clinical department leaders, hospital partners, and external accrediting bodies.
• Collaborates internally with clinical departments to design and enhance individual and Interprofessional Continuing Education plans and requirements.
• Develops CE delivery models that enhance and support recertification, training, and credentialing.
• Supports departments and faculty in the design and accreditation of enduring and live educational activities, including grand rounds, symposia, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Enhances excellent interprofessional continuing education by facilitating needs-based educational programs for various clinical disciplines, to include physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals as well as quality improvement and simulation-based educational leaders.
• Partners with the Office of Faculty Development, Nursing Continuing Professional Development, Graduate Medical Education, Undergraduate Medical Education, and Quality Improvement to identify faculty development and MOC Part 4 synergies.
• Expands CME partnerships with professional societies, regional employers, and community health organizations.
• Creates and expands relationships with clinical entities, including Joint Providership and interprofessional continuing education collaborators.
• Innovation, Technology, and Communications
• Leverages data analytics, learner feedback, and instructional technology to enhance program relevance, equity, and impact.
• Oversees the learning management system for CME tracking, reporting, and transcript generation.
• Enhances program visibility through marketing strategies, impact reporting, and digital engagement.
• Serves as an accessible liaison with the faculty and chairs and educational leaders of the clinical departments of UTSW, facilitating the planning, management, and delivery of educational programs, including already established programs and stimulating the development of new programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required

• Education
  Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Education, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  An equivalent combination of directly related work experience may be considered in lieu of stated degree requirement.

• Experience
  6 years of progressively responsible administrative or operational experience, ideally with experience in a medical school or academic health system.

Preferred

• Education
  Master’s Degree or Doctoral degree in Business, Finance, or related field.

• Experience
  10+ years of experience, ideally with some experience in a medical school and preferably including work or close interaction with an academic health system or hospital, with sizeable educational operations.
  A clinical background is desired.

• Licenses and Certifications
  Professional/Board Certification by the Alliance Certification Commission, which confers the Certified Healthcare CPD Professionals (CHCP designation), the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE designation), or the American College of Medical Practice Executives (CMPE or FACMPE designation) is highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Work requires knowledge of and functional competency with computers, software, data systems and all other electronic devices and methods used to deliver educational programs and assess their outcomes.
• Work requires strong skills pertinent to teamwork, communication, staff management and supervision, analytic problem solving, and education advocacy.
• Work requires experience and understanding of the interrelationship among components of an AMC.
