The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, ranked No. 1 hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and No. 2 hospital in Texas by U.S. News and World Report, is seeking an outstanding accomplished, board eligible/certified Physiatrist with the ability to drive program development while maintaining a focus on clinical excellence across three major hospitals and affiliated outpatient clinics. The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, chaired by Dr. Heakyung Kim, provides services at Parkland Memorial Hospital, Clements University Hospital, and their affiliated outpatient clinics. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to work with residents, fellows, and medical students in one of the largest PM&R training programs in the U.S.

Role Responsibilities and Duties:

The ideal candidate will provide high quality, comprehensive clinical care to inpatients and outpatients as assigned.  Teaching responsibilities will include medical students, PM&R residents and fellows in didactic lectures and group settings as well as participation in various multidisciplinary conferences.  Research will vary depending on the candidate’s interest.

Qualifications:

• Education: MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent)
• Board Certification: ABPMR Board certified or eligible
• Licensure: Eligible for Texas medical licensure (must acquire prior to employment)

The ideal candidate will be an integral part of one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious PM&R training programs, where they will mentor and engage with residents, fellows, and medical students. Clinically, the candidate will be responsible for assessing and addressing the physical and functional needs of individuals dealing with disabilities or chronic health conditions. They will help patients manage pain, improve mobility, and restore function. This involves creating and implementing personalized rehabilitation plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs and abilities. 

In addition, in this role you will work in close collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including psychologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and social workers, to ensure comprehensive care and promote the patient’s maximum independence. The candidate must demonstrate strong diagnostic skills, empathy, and the ability to guide patients toward achieving both physical recovery and overall well-being.
