JOB SUMMARY
Works under general direction to provide advanced statistical consultation for faculty, staff, and students.

Looking for a creative candidate with an interest in developing and applying genetic epidemiological and population-based methods to study how polygenic variation impacts human health and disease. Focus areas include identifying metabolomic, proteomic and other -omic biomarkers related to disease, evaluating polygenic predictors of disease risk or outcomes, and identifying opportunities to translate genetics into clinical practice. The lab’s approaches typically include applying discovery-oriented and hypothesis-oriented methodologies in genotyped populations derived from epidemiological and clinically-derived data sets, as well as resources such as All of Us and the UK Biobank. 

Responsibilities would include developing and validating phenotypes, performing genetic quality control on data sets, constructing polygenic predictors, and performing analyses using a range of genetic methods. Essential skills include an understanding of epidemiological/statistical methods and an ability to work with large high-dimensional data sets within linux and cloud-based analytical environments. A clinically-oriented or biological background with experience in genetic research is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed to assist with presenting data and manuscript development. Experience with statistical packages such as R as well as genetic programs such as PLINK.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required

• Education
  Master’s Degree in biostatistics or related discipline, or MPH with a concentration in biostatistics

• Experience
  3 years experience in statistical consulting with preference given to experience working in biomedical or health care environment and
  Requires working knowledge of SAS, SPSS or other major statistical package (S+, R, etc.) and Microsoft Office (ACCESS and EXCEL)

JOB DUTIES

• Collaborates with investigators to identify problems and provide statistical consultation including design of experiments of survey, analysis of data, interpretation of results and preparation of reports.
• Writes statistical portion of manuscript based on results of analysis and address manuscript revisions based on reviewer’s comments.
• Assists client data organization.
• Performs statistical computations.
• Provides graphical and tabular representations.
• Develops, maintains and modifies programs for in-house use.
• Collaborates with investigators in grant development including statistical design of studies and preparation of statistical portion of grant proposal.
• Performs non-statistical components of consulting such as providing analogous examples and explanations using non-technical terminology, and helping researchers formulate and clarify research issues.
• Visits client’s work field whenever possible to establish rapport and to become familiar with and interested in client’s research and data.
• May supervise biostatistical consultants and/or data entry operators.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
