Category: Faculty and Physicians
Profile
The Division of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a clinical or counseling psychologist with strong training in health psychology for a full-time clinical faculty position embedded in the Division of Endocrinology within the Department of Internal Medicine. The position is based in the Weight Wellness Program, a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic that provides care to patients managing complex endocrine and metabolic conditions, including obesity, diabetes, and other chronic health concerns. While weight management is one component of the clinic’s work, the primary focus of this role is addressing the behavioral, psychological, and lifestyle factors that influence chronic disease management, medical adherence, and overall quality of life.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a vibrant, collaborative team of physicians, advanced practice providers, dietitians, and other professionals committed to integrated, patient-centered care. We are specifically seeking a candidate who values team-based work and is active in building positive, collegial relationships with coworkers across disciplines. The psychologist will play a key role in advancing behavioral health services for a diverse patient population and supporting holistic treatment approaches within an interdisciplinary medical setting.
Ideal candidates will have strong training in effectively building relationships with patients, cognitive behavioral therapy and other evidence-based modalities, and demonstrated experience or interest in working with chronic illness, behavioral medicine, and psychological factors related to health and wellness. Expertise in motivational interviewing, eating disorders, addiction, trauma, and team-based care is particularly valued.
Although the psychologist will be clinically embedded within the Weight Wellness Program, the primary academic appointment will be in the Department of Psychiatry, Division of Psychology, and will serve as a core member of the psychology faculty.
Research and Teaching
While this is primarily a clinical position, there are robust opportunities for teaching, supervision, and scholarly work. The psychologist will have the opportunity to supervise psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and contribute to UT Southwestern’s APA-accredited doctoral program in Clinical Psychology.
Involvement in research is strongly encouraged, particularly studies examining multicultural factors, intersectionality, and health disparities in medically underserved populations. The Weight Wellness Program is actively involved in multiple research projects in which the candidate would be expected to collaborate. The clinic offers a rich environment for applied research, with access to diverse clinical populations and collaborative partnerships across departments.
This is an excellent opportunity for a psychologist who is passionate about health psychology, enjoys working as part of an interdisciplinary team, and is committed to providing equitable, evidence-based care. We are especially interested in candidates with a strong appreciation for diversity and a desire to work with a demographically and clinically varied patient population.
