The Peter O’Donnell Jr School of Public Health (OSPH) seeks an accomplished senior faculty member (Associate or Full Professor) with a PhD, MD, DrPH, or equivalent degree and nationally recognized expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), and healthcare and public health informatics. The successful candidate will be an exceptional educator and mentor with a distinguished research portfolio in the pragmatic use of AI and informatics to improve clinical care, health systems performance, and population health outcomes. This faculty member will play a leadership role in advancing the School’s mission in education, research, and translational implementation including building a certificate program in AI and supporting the MS in Healthcare Informatics program.
Key Responsibilities
· Teaching & Mentorship
o Teach graduate-level courses in healthcare informatics, public health informatics, AI applications in health, and related fields.
o Mentor and advise students enrolled in Master’s and PhD programs, guiding them in coursework, research, and career development.
o Develop innovative curricula that bridge theory, practice, and policy in informatics and AI.
· Leadership & Mentorship
o Mentor junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students in research design, grant development, and career progression.
o Provide leadership in curriculum development, particularly in AI and informatics education for Master’s and PhD students.
o Foster an inclusive, collaborative learning environment across disciplines.
· Research & Scholarship
o Lead a nationally recognized, independently funded research program in healthcare and public health informatics.
o Advance the integration of AI, machine learning, predictive modeling, and EHR data to transform healthcare delivery and public health practice.
o Publish in high-impact journals and present research to both academic and policy audiences.
o Secure and maintain extramural research funding from federal agencies (NIH, AHRQ, NLM, NSF, CDC), foundations, or other sources.
o Build and lead interdisciplinary research teams across clinical, data science, and policy domains.
· Service & Engagement
o Provide strategic leadership to the School and University in the area of AI and informatics.
o Contribute to national and international thought leadership on the ethical, equitable, and responsible application of AI in healthcare and public health.
o Engage with health systems, government agencies, and industry partners to translate research into practice and policy.
o Serve on editorial boards, advisory committees, or professional organizations advancing the field.
Qualifications
o Demonstrated excellence in graduate-level teaching and mentoring.
o Strong background in clinical informatics and public health informatics.
o Expertise in EHR systems, decision support, data integration, and interoperability.
o Evidence of successful application of AI in healthcare or public health contexts.
o Evidence of successful application of AI in healthcare or public health contexts.
o Established track record as a senior scholar with a national/international reputation in AI and informatics.
o Experience in leadership roles within academic or research institutions.
