JOB SUMMARY
This position is a technical role focused on the repair and maintenance of biomedical equipment used for patient care. Technologists will primarily perform a variety of routine tasks associated with the maintenance of medical devices, referencing industry and institutional policies, procedures, and standards. The position will require strong working knowledge of IR systems that support this equipment, including software, networking, and servers. This role will identify and escalate IT-related issues appropriately, coordinating with IT and vendors as needed to ensure seamless system functionality. Additionally, this role provides support for neurodiagnostic studies only in critical situations when staffing is short.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Associate’s Degree or equivalent military training in a technical field (Information Technology, Biomedical Technology, or other closely related fields are required). In lieu of a technical degree, a Neurodiagnostic certification/registration will be considered equivalent.

Experience with Neurodiagnostic systems and their integration with hospital IR infrastructure is preferred.

JOB DUTIES
- Repair and Maintenance: The technologist will install, repair, and maintain all clinical biomedical equipment and instrumentation used for diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, or care of patients. This includes analyzing electronic equipment for the cause of failure, isolating, testing, and replacing defective parts. This role is perceived as a subject matter expert in medical device error diagnosis, maintenance, and repair across multiple different clinical equipment asset classes. The technologist will use a broad spectrum of hand tools and electronic and computerized test equipment. They will also design and construct cables, adapters, and other interfacing equipment, ensuring operational safety and compliance.
- Documentation and Compliance: The role requires maintaining required records and reports relative to regulatory compliance of biomedical equipment. The technologist will follow a designated program for the acceptance, maintenance, safety, performance verification, and efficiency of biomedical equipment.
- Neurodiagnostic Support: In critical situations where staffing is short, the technologist will perform routine, extended, and continuous EEG procedures. This includes monitoring patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and providing technical descriptions of procedures.
- Patient and Staff Safety: The technologist will verify the identity of patients and ensure their safety at all times. They will keep equipment clean and in working order, and troubleshoot equipment problems, reporting any issues to management promptly. They must be knowledgeable about appropriate actions to take during an abnormal study or emergency situation.
- Additional Responsibilities: The position requires a variety of additional responsibilities, including:
- Identify, document, and escalate IT-related issues (software, networking, server integration, or data storage problems) to the appropriate IT and vendor team.
- Professional Development: Maintaining professional growth and technical expertise through ongoing educational opportunities, such as seminars and conferences.
- On-Call Support: Participating in a shared on-call rotation to address urgent repair needs outside of regular business hours.
- Safety and Compliance: Having a working knowledge of electrical safety and adhering to institutional standards for handling infectious, hazardous, and flammable materials.
- Interfacing with Staff: Working closely with other medical staff, including nurses and physicians, to ensure proper equipment function and patient safety.
