Monday through Friday, salary position with flexibility to adjust hours as needed to fill the needs of the Neuropathology lab. Possible rotating holidays and weekends.

JOB SUMMARY
The Laboratory Supervisor for the Neuropathology Core Laboratory plays a vital leadership role in ensuring high-quality diagnostic testing, operational efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards. Reporting to the Core Laboratory Manager, this position provides day-to-day oversight of laboratory operations, including staff management, workflow coordination, quality control, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Supervisor serves as both a technical and administrative resource, guiding a team of laboratory professionals in the performance of complex testing procedures while ensuring adherence to CLIA, CAP, and other accrediting agency requirements.

This role requires a balance of hands-on technical expertise and leadership skills, including training and mentoring staff, monitoring performance, addressing workflow challenges, and fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability. The Supervisor will also participate in developing and implementing new laboratory procedures, evaluating equipment and methodologies, and maintaining rigorous quality assurance and safety standards. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required

• Education
  Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or in one of the chemicals, physical or biological sciences or related field.

• Experience
  5 years of experience as a Medical Technologist/CLSLIA with at least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or lead capacity. Must be qualified as a Technical Supervisor as defined by CLIA regulations.

JOB DUTIES

• Demonstrate continuous performance improvement in targeted areas of responsibility in alignment with the overall annual Hospital performance improvement targets.
• Meets or exceeds financial goals and objectives of the department.
• Manage and direct the daily activities of assigned laboratory work group(s) through appropriate delegation, technical skills training, and work supervision. Supervisors screen and assign workload. Oversee the work of laboratory personnel performing routine testing.
• Manage staff in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable regulations. Counsel, train, and coach laboratory staff. Directs the management of sections, human resources, and employee relations. Responsibilities include appraising performance and guiding professional development; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing employee relations issues and resolving problems. Approve actions on human resources issues. Foster a unified culture and facilitate collaboration, cooperation, sharing of information and teamwork. Participate in initiatives to improve employee engagement to positively impact operational results, customer satisfaction and employee retention.
• Supervisors will take measures to keep the laboratory running efficiently by developing and implementing quality control programs, preparing technical reports on lab activity, and designing efficient work schedules for personnel. Assist in the creation and revision of laboratory policies and technical procedures. Maintain appropriate control and quality assurance procedures. Ensure compliance with the Clinical Laboratory Services quality assurance and safety requirements. Accountable for adherence to state and federal rules and regulations; ensures compliance with CAP, AABB, TJC, federal, state, and local agencies.
• Keep abreast of new technical developments. Assist with implementation of new tests, equipment, programs and/or procedures in the assigned area(s) as needed. Supervisors learn new laboratory procedures and techniques and introduce them to their team.
• Accountable for on-going training and professional development of staff. Meet regularly with staff, technical directors and senior management to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues.
• Assist in developing performance standards. Monitor work, develop staff skills and evaluate performance.
• Performs advanced/specialized tests and other related laboratory techniques. Reruns work of others to confirm test results. Re-evaluates methodology and makes recommended changes to assist in test interpretation. Determines if further testing should be done on samples or if test should be repeated.
• Performs duties of technologist as necessitated by absence or peak workload.
