JOB SUMMARY
The Financial Analyst I supports the financial operations of the UT Southwestern Simulation Center by assisting with budgeting, financial reporting, invoicing, reconciliation, and analysis. This role works closely with Simulation Center leadership, faculty, and administrative teams to ensure accurate financial planning, cost control, and compliance with institutional policies. The Financial Analyst I provides analytical support for clinical simulation activities, and capital projects, contributing to the efficient and sustainable operation of the Simulation Center. This position is ideal for an early-career financial professional seeking to build analytical expertise in a dynamic academic medical center environment while supporting innovative education, research, and clinical training initiatives.
Preferred skills for this position
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, basic financial modeling)
• Ability to prepare and reconcile budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial reporting standards
• Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in financial data management
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, leadership, and administrative teams
• Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information
• Experience in an academic medical center, healthcare, or higher-education environment
• Familiarity with financial systems such as PeopleSoft, SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems
• Experience with institutional budgeting, cost recovery, and fund accounting
• Exposure to grant, research, or program-based financial tracking
• Basic knowledge of capital planning and equipment lifecycle budgeting
• Experience supporting educational, clinical, or simulation-based programs
• Ability to create dashboards or visual summaries using Excel or similar tools
