JOB SUMMARY 

The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Supply Chain Management is an enterprise executive leader responsible for the strategy, governance, and performance of UT Southwestern’s institution-wide supply chain in support of its clinical, research, and education missions. Operating within one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, the AVP serves as the executive owner of end-to-end supply chain strategy and execution, ensuring value creation, operational excellence, supply chain resiliency, and regulatory compliance across all missions and sites. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance, with accountability to the Health System Chief Operating Officer, the AVP partners closely with executive, clinical, faculty, and administrative leaders to optimize supply chain capabilities that enable high-quality patient care and research excellence. This role requires a proven enterprise leader with the ability to influence physician-led environments, lead transformation at scale, and deliver measurable outcomes in a complex academic setting.   

 
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION 
 
Required 

• Education 
  Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field  
    

• Experience 
  10 years of relevant leadership experience within an academic medical center or large healthcare system  
    

• Licenses and Certifications 
  (CPSM) Certified Professional in Supply Management or  
  (CTCD) Certified Texas Contract Developer or  
  (CPPO) Certified Public Purchasing Officer  
  If not already certified, must obtain certification as outlined above within 18 months from date of hire.  
    

Preferred 

• Education 
  Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field  
    

• Experience 
  Relevant leadership experience developing procurement systems, such as Jaggaer  
    

 
JOB DUTIES 

• Enterprise & Strategic Leadership: 

• Serve as the institutional leader for supply chain strategy, policy, and performance across UT Southwestern. 

• Define and execute a comprehensive, forward-looking supply chain strategy aligned with institutional priorities and long-term financial sustainability. 

• Establish strategic and tactical priorities that maximize economic impact, operational effectiveness, and supply continuity. 

• Lead institutional initiatives that enhance patient outcomes, research capability, and institutional value through supply chain innovation. 

• Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on supply chain risks, opportunities, and investments. 

• Clinical, Faculty & Research Partnership: 

• Partner with clinical, faculty, and departmental leadership to address supply, equipment, and service needs in a timely and effective manner. 

• Serve as executive sponsor for clinical Value Analysis and Technology Assessment governance, driving standardization, utilization management, and evidence-based sourcing decisions. 

• Develop supply chain strategies that support research procurement, grant-funded purchasing, and specialized academic requirements while maintaining compliance and fiscal stewardship. 

• Operational Excellence & Transformation: 

• Provide executive oversight of all supply chain functions, including strategic sourcing and contracting; vendor and GPO management; logistics, inventory, and distribution; and analytics, reporting, and performance management. 

• Lead enterprise sourcing events and contract negotiations in partnership with key stakeholders and clinical leaders. 

• Identify and execute cost-reduction, value-enhancement, and risk-mitigation initiatives with measurable results. 

• Monitor and improve vendor performance using data-driven metrics (e.g., service levels, fill rates, backorders). 

• Standardize supply chain practices across the institution in a manner that supports outstanding clinical outcomes and academic performance. 

• Digital Enablement & Analytics: 

• Partner with Information Resources and Finance to optimize Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and related systems, enabling automation, visibility, and data-driven decision-making. 

• Champion the deployment of advanced digital tools for spend analytics, supplier performance, inventory optimization, and workflow efficiency. 

• Ensure supply chain data integrity and transparency to support executive reporting and decision-making. 

• External Partnerships & System Representation: 

• Represent UT Southwestern in Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) engagements and UT System-level committees to maximize value and alignment. 

• Build strong partnerships with suppliers, UT System peers, and external stakeholders to advance institutional goals. 

• Governance, Compliance & Stewardship: 

• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, UT System, and institutional laws, policies, and internal controls. 

• Safeguard financial integrity and institutional risk through strong governance and disciplined execution. 

• Oversee departmental operations, including budgeting, financial management, resource allocation, and space planning. 

• Establish and monitor key performance indicators, regularly reporting outcomes to executive leadership.

• Build and sustain a high-performing, service-oriented supply chain organization grounded in accountability, stewardship, and continuous improvement. 

• Develop future leaders through coaching, professional development, education programs, and succession planning.
