JOB SUMMARY
Works under limited supervision to plan, coordinate, and supervise general duties and needs of laboratory. Maintains supplies, equipment, and personnel within laboratory. 

Oversees organization and optimization of common stock items, freezer and refrigerator space, and leads regular laboratory clean-ups. Manages inventory of laboratory supplies and human biological materials in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements. Supervises laboratory personnel, maintains personnel records, completes performance evaluations, and recruits and trains technical support in accordance with departmental and university guidelines. Oversees next-generation sequencing (NGS) submissions and associated database management, including coordination with computational and bioinformatics team members regarding analysis status. Troubleshoots operational, technical, and compliance issues. Ensures implementation and enforcement of laboratory and institutional policies, including safety programs and regulatory compliance in coordination with the laboratory administrator.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

• Education
  Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific field 
  Must meet education and experience certification and training guidelines for equipment and tests used and performed in laboratory as required under federal regulations. 
   

• Experience
  4 years relevant experience to include at least one (1) year experience in specific area assigned.

JOB DUTIES

• Coordinates duties, schedules, project activities, equipment usage, operating time, research studies, billing and space for large group of people using research and organization skills in order to ensure efficient operation of lab.
• Coordinates availability of technical assistance, appropriate chemicals, and special equipment to ensure timely preparation or completion of clinical work or research projects.
• Supervises laboratory and office personnel, maintains personnel records, completes performance evaluations, and recruits and trains both clerical and technical support using managerial skills according to departmental and university guidelines.
• Orders and allocates all laboratory supplies, materials, and equipment; maintains adequate inventory to ensure efficient operation of projects.
• Maintains information on warranties, service contracts, operating manuals, licenses and permits; oversees maintenance of laboratory equipment in order to ensure compliance with all regulations and safety standards.
• Compiles, analyzes, and presents research data using computers and sub ledgers for submission to investigators to be used in preparation of journal articles for publication. Prepares journal articles and writes protocols for research as required by organizing and editing data.
• Troubleshoots problems and designs training according to government regulations. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
