An Instructor position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Ruhma Syeda in the Department of Neuroscience at UT Southwestern Medical Center to study mechanically activated ion channels. The Syeda Lab (https://www.utsouthwestern.edu/labs/syeda/) is broadly interested in ion channel function at multiple levels, including permeation, gating, pharmacology, and associated channelopathies, develop innovative methods to study ion channels and mechanosensitive proteins, and identify small molecules that can rescue disease-causing mutations.
This position will focus on elucidating the structure–function relationships of mechanosensitive proteins, their roles in human disease, and the underlying physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms using a range of cellular and animal models. We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and independent candidate with a strong background in ion channel physiology, molecular and cellular neuroscience, and mouse genetics. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with a variety of biochemical and biophysical techniques, including the ability to operate and modify electrophysiology equipment as needed. As a senior member of the lab, the candidate will be expected to mentor trainees, support lab operations, and actively contribute to scientific discussions. Qualification
1. Degree type required : Ph.D. in neuroscience, pharmacology or physiology
2. Years of relevant work experience : 10+ years of active research experience after Ph.D. along with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications
3. Demonstrated experience with a specific technique or equipment: Electrophysiology and Imaging
