An Instructor position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Xiaochen Bai, Associate Professor in the Department of Biophysics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. The Instructor will lead advanced research efforts under the strategic direction of the lab, contributing to its overarching scientific mission. The Bai lab focuses on the structural and functional analysis of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), with the goal of understanding how distinct RTKs utilize receptor-specific mechanisms to initiate and regulate signal transduction.
The Instructor will investigate the apo and active conformations of the insulin receptor in complex with regulatory factors using single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). Following structural characterization, the role of these regulatory factors in insulin receptor signaling will be examined through structure-guided mutagenesis.
Core responsibilities include recombinant protein expression and purification, cryo-EM data collection and structure determination, atomic model building, and cell-based functional assays. The Instructor is expected to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment and contribute to experimental design, data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation to advance innovative discoveries in the lab.
This position requires extensive experience in protein biochemistry, as well as structural and functional analysis of proteins involved in signal transduction. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in biochemistry, structural biology, or a closely related field.
Applicants should apply online and upload a current CV.
