A postdoctoral training position is available in the Skowyra Lab in the Department of Biochemistry at the UT Southwestern Medical Center to study peroxisome biogenesis. Our laboratory works on exciting projects dissecting how membrane-bounded organelles such as peroxisomes are formed, how they acquire their unique morphological identities and metabolic functions, and how these processes are dysregulated in disease. Specifically, we are investigating how proteins are imported into peroxisomes, and how metabolites such as lipids are transferred between peroxisomes and other organelles. We use a combination of approaches that include cell-based models, a cell-free system based on frog egg extract, and in vitro reconstituted systems based on purified proteins. Postdoctoral fellows will have many opportunities to learn the newest methods in protein biochemistry, organelle biology, fluorescence microscopy, high-speed multi-color timelapse imaging, in vitro reconstitution, and structural biology. The fellow will have ready access to state-of-the-art equipment and resources necessary for the above approaches.
Candidates must have a recent M.D. and/or Ph.D. degree; experience in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, or a related discipline; and at least one published peer-reviewed research article.
Interested individuals should send an email to the principal investigator (Michael L. Skowyra). Please attach a current CV (with publications and contact information for 3 references) and a one-page cover letter that includes:
· A summary of your past research experience and scientific accomplishments;
· A statement of interest in the Skowyra Lab and why you would be a great fit;
· Your goals for your postdoctoral training;
· Your potential start date.
