JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Cardiac Surgery team in a dedicated nocturnal inpatient role. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will serve as a key clinical provider caring for high-acuity cardiac surgery patients throughout the continuum of hospitalization. Working collaboratively with cardiac surgeons, physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary care teams, the APP will provide comprehensive inpatient management including consultations, admissions, discharges, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, developing treatment plans, coordinating care, and providing patient and family education.
The APP will follow patients before and after cardiac surgical procedures, manage complex clinical issues, interpret laboratory results, chest X-rays, and EKGs, facilitate specialty consultations, and perform independent clinical decision-making in a fast-paced environment. This role offers a high degree of autonomy and is ideal for providers who are detail-oriented, adaptable, and thrive in a collaborative, patient-centered setting. Veterans encouraged to apply.
Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week (6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.) with rotating weekend and holiday coverage. Inpatient-only practice; no operating room responsibilities.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Education
Graduate of a master’s degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program. OR
Master’s degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
Licensure and Certification
Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. OR
Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
Current applicable Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association or American Red Cross Life Support certification(s) based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.
