General Surgery Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship
The General Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center offers a 12-month structured postgraduate education designed to equip Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants with the specialized clinical and surgical expertise required to deliver high-quality care across a broad range of surgical subspecialties.
As a nationally recognized academic medical center and the clinical enterprise of UT Southwestern Medical Center, the General Surgery APP Fellowship provides fellows with an exceptional learning environment focused on clinical excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration, evidence-based practice, and personalized mentorship. The program’s comprehensive curriculum spans the continuum of surgical care, from preoperative evaluation and operative management through postoperative recovery and longitudinal patient care.
During the fellowship, APP fellows are full-time employees of UT Southwestern Medical Center and receive a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, continuing education funds, and access to low-cost medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Fellows are offered a competitive annual salary of $95,000. The 2027-2028 General Surgery APP Fellowship cohort will begin on Monday, April 5, 2027.
PROGRAM APPLICATION
Applications for the General Surgery APP Fellowship Program will be accepted August 1, 2026, through September 30, 2026, via the online application portal. To be considered for the fellowship, applicants must submit a complete application by the deadline. Only completed applications will be reviewed. Veterans are encouraged to apply.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of a master’s degree in nursing as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with RNFA from an accredited advanced practice education program OR graduate of a physician assistant master’s program accredited by ARC-PA prior to the fellowship program start date.

EXPERIENCE
Program admission is open to new graduates or experienced Acute Care NPs with RNFA certification or Physician Assistants who meet the program eligibility requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily in a clinical environment. The incumbent may be exposed to body fluids and infectious diseases.
Any qualifications considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum requirements require prior approval of the Vice President for Human Resources Administration or their designee.
