JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Procedural Imaging (DP) is a registered nurse who has demonstrated leadership and management skills and has expertise in the care of patients undergoing radiologic tests and procedures. Using a high degree of professionalism, the DP directs the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care programs for patients undergoing tests and procedures in all areas of Imaging Services and works with inpatient and outpatient areas to ensure an effective continuum of care. The DP is responsible for the development of practice programs to provide optimum care for this patient population while being cared for in Imaging Services. In addition, he/she is responsible for collaborating with UTSW’s Ambulatory Administration, Department of Radiology, Director of Imaging Services, and Hospital Administration to ensure the development of practice programs for inpatient and outpatient services that provide pre- or post-radiologic test/procedure care. Other responsibilities include oversight of staff, developing and implementing quality control and quality improvement studies, and reviewing and revising policies and procedures. This role will oversee Apheresis, CVIR, Non-invasive cardiology, Radiology Clinic, Cancer Center IR, and other areas as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

• Education
  Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field

• Experience 
  10 years of experience in cardiac catheterization laboratory, electrophysiology (EP), and other imaging areas with potentially interventional radiology experience.

Licenses and Certifications
(RN) REGISTERED NURSE

(BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).

  Master’s Degree in relevant Health Science, MSN, MBA, MPA, or MHA

JOB DUTIES

Operations:

• Manages, directs, and coordinates imaging service procedural operations to provide the highest levels of patient care and efficiently utilize available resources.
• Establish critical relationships with radiologists to ensure high-quality services.
• Provides leadership and direction for nursing within imaging services, CVIR, Non-invasive cardiology, radiology clinic, cancer center, and apheresis
• Demonstrate continuous performance improvement in targeted areas of responsibility in alignment with the overall annual hospital performance improvement targets
• Oversees the fiscal, technical, and patient care activities of imaging services to ensure efficient operations, providing input on the hospital’s strategic initiatives and developing tactical strategies for assigned groups of departments and services
• Works cooperatively with other Directors and Managers to ensure smooth operation of hospital and department and work cooperatively with Medical Staff in pursuit of quality of care, clinical and operational objectives
• Partners with the Radiology Medical Director for best practice
• Develop educational programs based on standards of practice and quality of nursing care for the patient population.
• Organizes and supervises the daily operations of the Nursing staff in Interventional Radiology. As assigned, it also supports the general radiography, IR, CT, US, Mammography, and MRI departments.
• Assign nursing staff to work in all areas of radiology as needed.
• Coordinates Quality Assurance and clinical education for the department.
• Ensure that [unit/department/division] complies with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.

Nursing Practice:

• Oversees all direct patient care activities and nursing practice.
• Evaluate patient outcomes, identify populations at risk, and propose solutions. Set and evaluate practice standards and consult nurses and other health care disciplines.
• Develops, implements, and manages the Radiology Clinical Outcomes Processes; assists with continuous quality improvement activities.
• The DP is the department liaison with NBIMC Nursing Departments for The Joint Commission, National Patient Safety Goals, and other quality initiatives.
• Plans and organizes all functions and activities within the assigned area, ensures compliance with regulatory and governing agencies, and establishes Hospital standards, practices, and procedures
• Exemplifies and promotes nursing practice and excellence across the service, including all outpatient-imaging areas.
• The DP acts as a proactive change agent, nursing practice and patient advocate, professional role model, and special project coordinator.

Finance and Capital Planning:

• Responsible for the preparation of the annual budget after evaluating trends and consulting with supervisors, medical directors, and hospital leadership
• Collaborating with the medical director, hospital leadership, and ambulatory administration, plans and overseeing the planning, approval, and purchasing of capital equipment and related construction or renovation activities.
• Manages department within budgetary guidelines.
• Evaluate budget variance reports and delineate reasons for variances.
• Meets or exceeds the financial goals and objectives of the department. Incorporates budget planning, monitoring, and evaluating individual cost centers. Manages the fiscal operation of the unit/department to ensure utilization of staff and resources are being met in an efficient and cost-effective manner
