JOB DUTIES
The House Staffing Supervisor RN is a hospital-wide nursing leadership role within Central Staffing, supporting safe staffing, clinical operations, and patient care across Clements University Hospital and Zale Lipshy Pavilion. The House Staffing Supervisor maintains a system-level view of nursing operations, supporting more than 30 inpatient units along with specialty and ancillary areas across both hospitals. The role coordinates a diverse nursing workforce, including Float Pool RNs and PCTs, unit-based nursing resources, and supplemental staffing resources, to help ensure staffing remains responsive to changing patient and operational needs.
The House Staffing Supervisor partners closely with nursing leaders, Float Pool, Bed Control, and hospital operations to evaluate staffing needs, apply hospital staffing plans, and prioritize resources across patient care areas. Using census, patient acuity, skill mix, workforce availability, staffing projections, and resource utilization data, the House Staffing Supervisor helps identify staffing gaps, coordinate and deploy available resources, and support both real-time and upcoming shift needs. The role also leads hospital staffing huddles and shift reporting, supports surge planning and escalation, and helps balance competing priorities as conditions change throughout the hospital. These responsibilities align with the formal role’s expectations for hospital-wide staffing prioritization, shift reporting, resource utilization, and staffing adjustments based on census and acuity.
Beyond staffing coordination, the House Staffing Supervisor serves as an accessible nursing leadership resource for frontline teams and hospital leaders navigating complex staffing, clinical, and operational concerns. The House Staffing Supervisor responds to Code Blue, Rapid Response, and Code Rush events, supports communication and escalation during clinical emergencies, and assists with after-hours employee health needs when other resources are unavailable. House Staffing Supervisors also contribute to staffing optimization, workforce planning, resource utilization, surge preparedness, and process improvement initiatives that strengthen how nursing resources are planned, deployed, and monitored across the organization.
