The Center for Human Nutrition within the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an Assistant Professor to establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program focused on nutrition, metabolism, obesity, liver disease, or related biomedical sciences. The individual will conduct innovative basic and translational research, collaborate with multidisciplinary investigators across UT Southwestern, mentor trainees, contribute to graduate and medical education, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and actively participate in departmental and institutional academic activities.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Conduct independent and collaborative biomedical research aligned with the department’s strategic priorities.
• Prepare and submit grant proposals to federal agencies, foundations, and other funding organizations.
• Supervise and mentor postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, research staff, and trainees.
• Collaborate with faculty across departments and participate in multidisciplinary research initiatives.
• Present research findings at institutional, national, and international scientific meetings.
• Participate in departmental seminars, committee service, and other academic activities as appropriate.
• Contribute to the educational mission through mentoring, guest lectures, and training of students and fellows, as assigned.
• Establish a nationally recognized research program.
• Obtain and maintain extramural funding.
• Publish consistently in high-impact scientific journals.

Qualification

• Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in Nutrition, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Physiology, or a closely related biomedical science.
• Minimum of 6 years of postdoctoral research experience in nutrition, metabolism, gastroenterology, or a related field.
• Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed scientific publications.
• Experience conducting independent laboratory-based biomedical research.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare competitive grant applications or participate in externally funded research.
• Experience mentoring students, trainees, or research personnel preferred.
