JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Director of Operational Efficiency & Transformation for Ambulatory Services is responsible for driving enterprise-wide improvement across outpatient clinics, procedural centers, and ancillary services. This role uses advanced analytics, operational redesign, and financial performance insights to enhance patient access, streamline workflows, strengthen revenue integrity, reduce avoidable expenses, and ensure the ambulatory enterprise operates at peak efficiency. The Sr. Director partners closely with clinical, operational, and revenue cycle leaders to ensure daily operations align with long-term strategic goals and value-driven care delivery.

7 years or more in ambulatory operations, performance improvement, revenue cycle, or healthcare transformation, with leadership responsibilities.

JOB DUTIES
- Strategic Operational Leadership
- Support the ambulatory transformation agenda by identifying, prioritizing, and executing initiatives that improve patient access, visit throughput, provider productivity, and operational efficiency across clinics and outpatient service lines.
- Support development of a multi-year operational excellence roadmap that integrates digital tools, process automation, workforce optimization, and performance improvement methodologies.
- Operational Efficiency Optimization
- Conduct deep analysis of operational, financial, and clinical data to identify bottlenecks, capacity constraints, systemic inefficiencies and cost effectiveness strategies across ambulatory operations.
- Participate in establishing KPI frameworks for clinic operations, revenue cycle performance, scheduling accuracy, and adherence to standardized workflows.
- Revenue Enhancement & Coding Optimization
- Partner with Revenue Cycle, Coding, and Compliance teams to identify opportunities to improve revenue integrity, including:
- Ensuring accurate and complete charge capture
- Reducing coding errors
- Enhancing documentation quality and alignment with coding guidelines
- Improving front-end registration, eligibility verification, and copay collection processes
- Lead analyses to uncover underbilling trends, missed charges, denials patterns, and opportunities to optimize reimbursement while maintaining compliance standards.
- Expense Reduction & Resource Optimization
- Conduct cost analyses to identify opportunities to reduce non‿value added spending within ambulatory workflows, clinical support areas, supply management, and staffing models.
- Recommend and implement strategies to streamline expenses, including labor optimization, standardizing supply utilization, reducing waste, and enhancing procurement efficiency.
- Partner with Supply Chain and Clinic Directors to optimize inventory management, reduce over-ordering, and ensure cost-effective purchasing.
- Workflow Optimization
- In partnership with ambulatory operations and service line leadership, participate in redesigning operational workflows that will enhance patient flow, and improve care coordination.
- In partnership with ambulatory operations leadership. implement standardized clinic processes (rooming, check-in/out, scheduling, referrals, and authorizations) that improve throughput, productivity, and patient experience.
- Drive adoption of digital solutions (EHR tools, automation, self-service kiosks, scheduling optimization platforms) to reduce manual effort and administrative burden.
- Ambulatory Growth & Provider Strategy
- Supports strategic growth of the physician enterprise across ambulatory clinics and regional center.
- Partners with strategy, operational, clinical, and financial leadership to evaluate service expansion including the development of business plans and provider capacity analysis.
- Supports ambulatory provider onboarding by overseeing the end-to-end integration of physicians and APPs into ambulatory clinics, ensuring they are credentialed, privileged, operationally enabled, culturally integrated, and clinically productive on schedule.
- Partners with Department leadership, Medical Staff Services, Revenue Cycle, IT, Operations, and Marketing to deliver a frictionless Day-1 through Day-90 experience, accelerating time-to-productivity and improving provider retention.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Change Management
- Serve as a strategic partner to Clinic Operations, Nursing Leadership, Revenue Cycle, Finance, IT, Population Health, and Quality & Compliance.
- Lead multidisciplinary performance-improvement teams and guide implementation of transformation initiatives across diverse ambulatory settings.
- Build strong relationships with providers and clinic leaders to ensure buy-in, reduce resistance to change, and support consistent execution.
- Project Management
- Lead and develop the ambulatory project management team.
- Direct large-scale projects aimed at improving efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing revenue capture within outpatient environments.
- Manage timelines, resources, change management plans, and performance outcomes to ensure initiative success and sustainability.
- Ensure all projects include current state analysis with operational processes and data analysis, future state creation including pilots with proven success metrics, and detailed execution.
- Represent Ambulatory Services in stakeholder meetings as required by Ambulatory Leadership and be able to confidently present on projects and initiatives.
